ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Liz Carpenter-sixth-generation Texan-is a political artifact, an aging

feminist (80 on September 1, 2000), author and lecturer, despite her

handicap of a bum leg that necessitates cane and electric cart. She lives

in West Lake Hills, overlooking Austin, the capital of Texas. President

Clinton named her to the advisory committee of the White House Conference

on Aging. He is the fourth president to appoint Mrs. Carpenter to a

position of trust. The author has been honored by her profession, serving

as president of the National Women’s Press Club, as the recipient of many

journalism awards, and is a Distinguished Alumnus of The University of

Texas at Austin. She was one of the 271 founders of the National Women’s

Political Caucus in July of 1971. After that, she hit the ERA ratification

trail with a group including Erma Bombeck and Judy Carter. Her home in

Austin is still a gathering place for movers and shakers, and is her

launching pad for speeches and articles. When she is not busy writing she

lectures on Growing Old with Grace and Humor, Humor is Therapy, and the

Widening World of Women.
